The last time I did a boudoir session was in 2012….yes, you read that right. I was getting married, and like most of my brides, wanted a gift for my future husband. After the wedding we had our honeymoon phase but before I knew it, I was pregnant with our first son, Miles. All moms can relate to the no sleep, hair in a bun, forgetting to do things for yourself. I needed a boudoir session more than anything after he was born. I wanted to feel sexy again, confident, see myself how my husband sees me. That never happened because when Miles was 6 months old, I found out I was pregnant again and all plans for any type of boudoir session was not in the plans…for a long time!
When I started planning on my trip to WPPI (a photography convention) in Vegas in March, I KNEW I had to do a boudoir session. I didn’t care if it was 20 minutes or 2 hours, I NEEDED something. I reached out to Jennifer Williams and told her i wanted to book a session. Jen and I have known each other for almost 10 years and started our boudoir careers around the same time. If there is anyone I trust for this job, it’s her, and I needed that because I knew I had a wall up and I knew she would break it down. The shoot for me was amazing because I could feel my guard falling as we went on and I know when that happens you create something so special. I left feeling amazing and continue to feel amazing and when I saw the images, I cried. I freaking bawled my eyes out because I was so happy I looked as sexy as I felt 😉
I’m not a size 8 and I have stretch marks and I have things I want to work on but right now, this is me. I’m so proud of myself for doing this, even if it was far too long. I told myself that in 2016 one of my goals was to practice what I preach to my clients. My goal is to do a new shoot every year so I can see my growth as a person and put myself in my clients shoes. Most importantly though, I know I have to continue to remember to do things for myself because how I felt during, after and once I saw the images is a feeling that is unexplainable! It’s something we should all experience over and over again!
